Part 1

Install the Downloader App

The free Downloader app by AFTVnews is the easiest way to sideload on any Android TV OS device — including Fire TV, Android TV, and Google TV.

1

Open Your TV's App Store

From your TV's home screen, navigate to the app store using your remote:

  • Fire TV: Select Find → Search from the top menu
  • Android TV / Google TV: Navigate to the Google Play Store app
2

Search for "Downloader"

Use the on-screen keyboard or voice search (if available) to search for:

Downloader by AFTVnews

Select the app from the results — it has a simple orange icon. It's free to install.

3

Install Downloader

Select Download or Get and wait for the installation to complete. Once installed, do not open it yet — you need to enable a permission first.

Part 2

Allow Apps from Unknown Sources

You need to grant Downloader permission to install apps before it can sideload PosterBox.

4

Open Settings

Navigate to Settings on your TV. This is usually found in the top-right of the home screen or accessible by holding the home button on your remote.

  • Fire TV: Settings → My Fire TV → Developer Options
  • Android TV / Google TV: Settings → Apps → Security & Restrictions
💡 On some Android TV devices the path is Settings → Device Preferences → Security & Restrictions
5

Enable "Install Unknown Apps" for Downloader

Find the option labelled Install unknown apps or Unknown sources. Select Downloader from the app list and toggle it to On.

On Fire TV, you may instead see a single toggle called Apps from Unknown Sources — switch that on.

⚠️ You'll see a warning message. This is normal. Select Turn On or OK to confirm. This permission only affects the Downloader app.

Part 3

Download & Install PosterBox

With Downloader installed and permissions set, you're ready to go.

6

Open the Downloader App

Launch Downloader from your app list or home screen. The first time you open it, it may ask to access storage — select Allow.

7

Enter the PosterBox Download Short Code

Select the URL input field at the top and use the on-screen keyboard to type the following short code:

2644883

When finished, select Go or press the OK / Select button on your remote.

💡 Tip: you can also type posterbox.app/downloads/posterbox-latest.apk — Downloader will add the https:// automatically.
8

Wait for the Download to Complete

Downloader will show a progress bar as it fetches the APK file. This usually takes under a minute depending on your internet speed. Do not navigate away while it downloads.

9

Install PosterBox

Once the download finishes, an installation screen will appear automatically. Select Install and wait a few seconds for the app to install.

⚠️ If you see a "Play Protect" warning, select Install anyway. This is expected for sideloaded apps and does not mean the app is unsafe.
10

Clean Up and Launch

After installation Downloader will offer to delete the APK file — select Delete to free up space, then Done.

PosterBox is now installed! Find it in your app list, open it, and start your free app to begin displaying beautiful movie posters on your TV.

** IMPORTANT ** Some versions of Android TV do not have a settings button mapped to allow you to getting into settings. Please use the DOWN button on your navigation instead to get into the app settings.

Security tip: Once PosterBox is installed, it's good practice to go back into your Settings and turn Unknown Sources / Install Unknown Apps back off for Downloader. This prevents any other app from accidentally installing unverified software in the future.
