User Guide

Everything you need to get the most out of SportsBox on your TV.

Getting Started

SportsBox runs directly on your Fire TV, Android TV, or Google TV — no additional hardware, no account required. Install it from your device's app store, open it, and live scores appear immediately.

What SportsBox Shows

  • Scoreboard Grid — all of today's games in a card grid, sorted by status (live first)
  • Featured Game View — full-screen display for any selected game with animated team colors
  • Live Odds Board — spreads, totals, and moneylines for every game
  • Standings & League Leaders — conference standings with top statistical leaders

SportsBox covers eight sports: College Football (CFB), College Basketball (CBB), NFL, NBA, MLB, WNBA, MLS, and PGA Tour. You can show or hide any sport from Settings.

Data is fetched live from ESPN's public API. Scores, game clocks, and odds refresh automatically — no manual refresh needed.

Scoreboard Grid

The Scoreboard Grid is the main view — a card layout showing every game for the selected sport. Each card displays both team logos, the current score (or start time for upcoming games), the game status, and the broadcast network.

Game Card States

  • LIVE — highlighted border; shows current score and period/quarter/inning
  • HALFTIME — highlighted; in-game leaders are shown on the card
  • FINAL — dimmed; shows final score and network
  • Scheduled — shows tip-off / first pitch / kickoff time

Games are automatically sorted: live and halftime games rise to the top, followed by upcoming scheduled games, then final scores at the bottom.

Switching Sports

Sport tabs appear across the top of the screen. Navigate up to the tab bar with D-pad ↑, then use ←→ to move between sports. Press OK or D-pad ↓ to return to the grid for the selected sport.

You can also enable or disable which sports appear in the tab bar from Settings → Leagues.

In-Game Leaders on Cards

For live and halftime games, the card shows the top statistical leaders for each team directly on the card — no need to open the Featured Game View. Leaders refresh every 30 seconds.

If there are no games scheduled today in a sport, SportsBox shows a "No games today" message for that sport. Try switching to another active league.

Live Odds Board

The Live Odds Board is a full-screen table showing betting lines for every game across all active sports. Access it by navigating to the Odds tab in the sport tab bar at the top of the screen.

Columns Explained

Column What It Shows
TEAM Away team listed first (top row), home team second (bottom row)
SCORE Current score for live games; blank for scheduled games
TIME Current game clock for live games; start time for scheduled games
SPREAD Point spread — the favored team has a negative number (e.g. −3.5)
TOTAL Over/under — the combined projected score for both teams
ML Moneyline — the payout odds for betting either team to win outright

The board displays up to 24 games at a time (8 per column across 3 columns). Games are sorted by live status first, then by start time. Navigate between columns with ←→.

Odds are not available for PGA Tour. Odds data depends on market availability and may not appear for every game in every region.

Standings & League Leaders

The Standings screen shows the full conference standings for the selected sport alongside a league leaders panel on the right. Access it via the Standings tab in the sport tab bar.

Standings Columns

Each row shows the team logo, team name, and key record stats. The columns vary by sport but typically include wins (W), losses (L), win percentage (PCT), games behind (GB), and current streak (STK).

League Leaders Panel

The right panel shows season statistical leaders divided by conference. Each entry shows the player's headshot, name, team abbreviation, stat category, and season total. Stats shown include:

  • NFL — Passing yards, rushing yards, receiving yards, sacks
  • NBA / WNBA — Points, rebounds, assists
  • MLB — Batting average, home runs, RBI, ERA
  • College Football / Basketball — Conference-specific leaders
  • PGA Tour — Tournament leaderboard with hole-by-hole scores

The Standings screen automatically cycles through conferences using a smooth scroll animation so all standings are visible even on a single screen.

Settings

Open Settings by long-pressing OK on your remote from any screen, or by pressing the Menu ☰ button if your remote has one. Settings uses a two-panel layout: the left panel contains all options; the right panel shows filters for the currently highlighted sport.

Navigate with ↑↓, toggle items with OK, and press BACK or highlight the to close.

Leagues

The top section of Settings lists all eight supported sports. Toggle each one on or off to control which sports appear in the tab bar. Turning a sport off hides it everywhere in the app — scoreboard, odds board, standings, and ticker.

College Football College Basketball NFL NBA MLB WNBA MLS PGA Tour

Sport Filters

Several sports support filters that narrow which games appear in your scoreboard. When a sport with filters is highlighted in the left panel, its available filters appear in the right panel. Press to move into the filter panel, then navigate and press OK to toggle filters on or off.

A filter count badge (e.g. "2 filters") appears next to the sport name in the left panel when any filters are active.

Sport Available Filters
College Football Top 25 Only; SEC, Big Ten, Big 12, ACC, American Athletic, Mountain West, Sun Belt, MAC, Conference USA, Independents
College Basketball Top 25 Only; Big East, Big Ten, Big 12, SEC, ACC, WCC, Atlantic 10, American Athletic, Mountain West, Missouri Valley
NFL AFC, NFC
NBA Eastern Conference, Western Conference
MLB American League, National League
WNBA Eastern Conference, Western Conference
MLS Eastern Conference, Western Conference
PGA Tour No filters (all tournaments shown)

How conference filters work: When a conference filter is active, a game is shown if either team belongs to that conference. Enabling multiple conferences shows games where any team is in any of the enabled conferences. Disabling all conferences for a sport hides all games for that sport, even if the sport toggle is on.

Display Settings

Auto-Cycle Featured — When enabled, the Featured Game View automatically advances to the next game every 15 seconds. Useful when you want the TV to cycle through all live games without touching the remote. Navigate between games manually at any time by pressing ←→.

Attract Mode — When enabled, SportsBox cycles through its different views (Scoreboard Grid, Featured Game, Odds Board, Standings) approximately every minute, hands-free. Designed for sports bars, watch parties, and rooms where the TV should stay active and varied without any interaction.

For the best watch party experience, enable both Auto-Cycle Featured and Attract Mode together. SportsBox will rotate through every live game and every view automatically — no remote needed.
